Sunday Craft in the Barn

SPRING PROGRAMME

SUNDAYS 10am-4pm

@ The Grove Barn Unit, Oakbrook Farm GL6 7QN

16th March – Fire Craft with Jonathan Code

Fire-craft is likely one of the earliest activities of intentional transformation practiced by different cultures around the world. Whereas we now have the means of lighting fires at the flick of a switch or spark of a match, traditional fire-craft takes skill and, ultimately, mastery. In this workshop you will learn how to make a traditional fire lighting kit, gather suitable tinder and create fire from this timeless technique. We will follow up our kindling activities with an exploration of how this craft can lead us deeper into the realms of nature as well as into our own paths of self enquiry and development.

11th May – Oil Distillation with Soap-Making with Jonathan Code

In this workshop we will look at designing speciality cold-processed soaps and will introduce the basics of essential oil distillation. The workshop is suitable for anyone with some prior experience in cold-process soap making but beginners are also welcome. Steam distillation is the most commonly used method for extracting an essential or aromatic oil from a plant. Several different methods will be demonstrated during the day and advice given on how to design and develop different small-scale distillation set ups.
